Can you believe it? Play School is celebrating 50 years. What an amazing television show, still screening on ABC Kids. Do you remember watching Play School when you were a kid? Do your kids watch it now?
There are lots of ways to celebrate and look back at 50 wonderful years. ABC television is screening special celebrity covers version of favourite songs, which is available to view on iview, and the National Museum of Australia in Canberra has a special Play School exhibition until the 24th of July. This is a travelling exhibition so keep a look out for it in your city! It would be great to see all the props and many photos and costumes from the show in real life!
Play School has seen some incredible actors and performers. Who could forget Benita, John or Noni? It has always been a pioneer of diversity and inclusion in Australia, and many children considered the actors their true friends.
What were your favourite moments from Play School? I always loved the craft segments. They would take such everyday and accessible materials and turn them into the most interesting works of art and craft. Did you have a favourite window? Did you have a favourite toy?
You can see the documentary about the last 50 years of the show on ABC’s iview until the 24th of July. It is hosted by Kate Ritchie and looks back at the history of this wonderful television program.
ABC is celebrating with celebrities giving special performances and a Play School themed party pack, which is available on their special page for grownups.
Hip hip hooray! Happy birthday to this wonderful legacy in the world of children.
