Between schools being shut, swimming lessons, kinder gym, rhyme time and the like all being cancelled, some of us are looking at wide open days devoid of schedules to fill in for the next little while.
Those of us who are able to work at home, keeping our kids at home and staying in our houses, may be looking for ways to keep our kids entertained and off their devices. Write a letter
Jot down a short message, or draw a picture for a loved one, a neighbour, your teacher, or even a message of support for your local supermarket or Drs Surgery staff. If you can’t travel out to drop it off or place in the mail, scan or photograph the letter and send it via email or message service. Backyard Scientist
Head out to your backyard and find some different leaf and flower specimens, catalogue them by drawing the items in a notebook, and press your findings in a flower press! Play Dough fun!
Play dough is a great tool to have in your home learning kit. You can use play dough to make the letters of the alphabet, cut it into shapes and add it to a sensory table. We also love to play play dough ‘pictionary’ make up some note cards of simple items, eg table, bath, fork, and use the play dough to make them! We love the texture and smoosh of Wild Dough play dough, it also smells amazing!
Mindfullness Activities
Spend an afternoon doing mindfullness activities, try some yoga, sit peacefully outside and spend some time listing all the different noises you can hear, draw or make a painting of a place that makes you feel happy.
Perform a show
Write a play, or choreograph a dance and perform in full costume using makeup, face paint and dress ups! We have some wonderful face paint kits and pencils to get you started!
Board Games
We love board and card games that encourage kids to be active and use some critical thinking skills at the same time. Change the way you play ‘Snap’ by having the loser of each hand do an activity, eg 10 jumping jacks. Change the rules of Monopoly so players have to do 10 push ups to get out of jail or pay their rent. Use our ‘Charades’ and ‘Who am I’ games for some fun options.
Chalk Fun
