It is nearly the weekend, and even though school has gone back, it is still summer! So Les Zazous plan to make a day of it, and have some fun. First stop, the playground.
It is such a beautiful day! The animal friends climb onto the giant swing and all that can be heard is laughter, as they climb and swing and play.
‘Smile! We want to take your picture’ said the elephant zazous to the bear zazous and the cat zazous.
In the park, elephant zazous and hippopotamus zazous watch as the others dance wildly to the swing jazz band who has set up near the swings. They have a friendly dance competition, inviting passers by to join in with the fun.
After the park, the friends decide to go to the beach. They are hot and sweaty from so much dancing, and decide to jump into the ocean to refresh themselves. It is such a beautiful day and there are so many people on the beach. They sing and dance all the way to the ocean’s edge.
There is a cool breeze and the friends toast each other with glasses of fruit juice, before they frolic in the waves.
History of Les Zazous
Did you know that the zazous were a youth subculture that developed in France during the Second World War? They were a group of people who expressed their individuality by wearing crazy, garish clothes and dancing wildly to swing jazz and bebop.
They expressed themselves through their clothes, dancing and other activities as a way of resisting the ultra conservative occupation of France during World War II.
