‘What an absolutely gorgeous winter’s day and what an adventure!’ said Fanette to the others. ‘Yes, indeed! I am loving sitting here, soaking up the sunshine’ said Adele. ‘Shall we go for a walk along the beach this afternoon?’
They had finished setting up their tent, so Louison put the billy onto the fire for a refreshing butter peppermint tea. The baby girl and boy were sleeping, so the four sisters – Fanette, Adele, Jeanne and Lousion decided to sit around the camp fire and chat.
After about an hour the babies woke and started to cry. Fanette and Jeanne cuddled them until they realised they were safe. Then they decided to wander down to the rocky beach to see what kinds of shells they could find. It was so beautiful at the beach – the sun was still warm, the sea was glistening and the smell of sea air was so invigorating. ‘Look!’ Louison cried out in delight, ‘a baby seal swimming near the rocks’.
Adele and Jeanne sat on the shore with the babies while Fanette and Louison went down to explore the rock pools to see what sea creatures were living there.
When they returned to their camping site Fanette went out into the woods to gather more wood for their evening fire, and the girls started to prepare their evening meal. ‘Nothing better than exercise to work up a healthy appetite!’ said Adele.
After dinner, they sat around the fire and warmed themselves in the glow. Fanette then settled the babies into bed, telling them stories of seals and dolphins and whales until they were fast asleep. Ready for bed themselves, the girls finished the evening with a cup of delicious hot chocolate.
