You can take the opportunity to go and see some of the best French cinema of 2016. Have you ever seen a BAD French film? I always delight in the opportunity to immerse myself in another world and language for a couple of hours.
On Wednesday night I went to the opening party in Melbourne. It was delightful, with free champagne, macaroons and chocolates of exceptional quality for the film, which was Rosalie Blum.
Rosalie Blum
It was such a touching and hilarious piece of French cinema that had the crowd laughing all the way through. Vincent, a young, bored young man meets Rosalie in a grocery store and feels like he has met her before. He is so intrigued by Rosalie that he begins to follow her around the town, to her choir, bars and her home. We are not really sure why he is doing this and it is a bit unnerving, until we see Rosalie ask her niece to keep tabs on the mysterious young man who is following her, turning the tables, with hilarious results.
It was a very entertaining piece of cinema, and a wonderful start to the festival. There are over 40 French movies on the program that runs just under four weeks, so there should be something for everyone.
David Stratton and George Miller are patrons of the festival this year and David has written about just five of the best offerings this year.
Oooh la la
We were treated to more wine and delicious canapés at the after party, which was held inside the Astor Cinema in St Kilda. The best part of the party was the delightful French music from the Unofficial soundtrack to the French Film Festival – So Frenchy So Chic.
I am looking forward to seeing many more films this year as part of the festival. I hope you will get the opportunity to check out some of this amazing festival too!
