The history of the brand

The idea behind Maileg started when Danish designer and illustrator Dorthe Mailil, was studying at L’ecole D’art de Marseille. For a class project, Dorthe created a quirky clay pixie with exaggerated proportions. The creature immediately won the hearts of her entire class with its spunky personality and charm. Dorthe moved from the medium of clay to fabric and in 1999, and alongside her husband Erik, Maileg was created. Dorthe continues to be inspired to create and grow the Maileg family which now includes mice, bunnies, forest friends and miniature accessories. 

The philosophy 

The team create unique, original, hand-made toys to spread joy and inspire children to imaginative play. They work closely with their suppliers and partners and hold high value in good relationships and quality products. 

Environmentally conscious

The toy designers believe the environment matters and take great efforts to ensure the brand has a limited effect on the planet. Maileg stuff their toys with recycled materials and reduce the use of polybags where possible. They reuse export cartons and all wooden toys are made from FSC approved wood.
